Since regaining full sovereign independence from Austria-Hungary in 1918, the principality has maintained its own uniquely individual financial stance, avoiding integration into either the European Union or the Euro and steadfastly retaining the Hoehnke Crown as its own currency. As the national reserve bank of the Principality, the Royal Bank of Hoehnke both issues the currency in its physical manifestation of notes and coins, but also acts as the security behind the embodiment of the national wealth.
